US troops may invade western Pakistan – NYT

Region:
In-depth Report:

US troops may invade western Pakistan to wipe out the militants who are based there and who attack military and civilian facilities in Afghanistan, according to The New York Times.

The daily reports with reference to sources in the White House that this may happen if State Secretary Hillary Clinton, currently engaged in talks in Islamabad, fails to make the Pakistani Government launch this kind of military operation against the Taliban ally, the Haqqani network, on its own.

Washington feels that the destruction of Haqqani bases would prove crucial to a final defeat of Taliban militants in Afghanistan.
