This Week’s Guests: Linda McQuaig and Chalmers Johnson
Linda McQuaig is a prominent, award-winning journalist with the Toronto Star covering Canadian politics. She does it with her trademark combination of solid research, keen analysis, irreverence, passion and wit.
She’s also a prolific author of eight books that earned her a well-deserved reputation for taking on the establishment, no holds barred. Her newest book is Holding the Bully’s Coat – Canada and the US Empire. McQuaig calls another recent one her best – It’s the Crude, Dude: war, big oil, and the fight for the planet.
The program will focus on McQuaig’s writing and her current work.
Chalmers Johnson is University of California, San Diego professor emeritus where he taught for 30 years as well as at UC, Berkeley. He’s currently president of the Japan Policy Research Institute (JPRI), a not-for-profit research and public relations organization involved in public education relating to Japan and the Pacific region.
Johnson is also a prolific writer and author of 17 books, many articles and various other publications. From 1968 until 1972, he served as well as a consultant to the CIA’S Office of National Estimates.
Johnson is a prominent critic of Bush administration policies. He authored three volumes on it in what he calls his “inadvertent trilogy” – Blowback, the Sorrows of Empire and his newest book Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic.
Discussion will focus on his writings and recent articles.
