Cinco Estados ofereceram protecção diplomática aos dois jornalistas, mas os combates em torno do hotel impedem-nos de sair e várias destas embaixadas estão cercadas a fim de tornar o seu acesso impossível. O Résau Voltaire apela a pressões sobre os governos envolvidos no sentido de garantir as vidas destes jornalistas e que se faça circular esta informação.
