A Brave New World: Preparing Our Children for a National Emergency. New York City Schools to Conduct Yearly “Lockdown Drills”.

Training Begins this Summer for School Officials

It was reported last month by the New York Daily News that New York City Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott announced that all schools will be required to “conduct lockdown drills each year”.  Training will begin this summer according to the report:

The policy revealed by Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott in a letter to principals Wednesday will require school leaders to attend a two-hour training program over the summer and appoint staff response teams and command posts

The policy is intended to prepare students and staff members for emergency situations that involve severe weather conditions, another Sandy Hook Massacre or any suspected acts of terrorism such as the Boston Bombings.  “The drills would be a response to severe weather conditions, intruders entering the building or suspicious packages found inside or outside the building, among other crises.  No one can enter or exit schools during a lockdown” the report said.  Conditioning children to except lockdowns in an emergency situation is social conditioning.  It involves the authorities to control the situation in any circumstance.

During the Boston bombings, martial law was declared in search of the suspected terrorists.  All of Boston was on lockdown.  Many people cheered the actions as a necessary step to find the terrorists.  It was also reported in www.metro.us that Department of Education (DOE) spokeswoman Marge Feinberg said “many schools have already been conducting such drills.” The drills will have a major role for school officials “To ensure that all principals are trained to appropriately implement these drills and procedures as well as effectively respond to emergencies, the Office of Safety and Youth Development is providing a two-hour mandatory training focused on emergency readiness during this summer.”

Social conditioning of children begins in public schools at an early age.  You teach children to accept “Lockdown Drills” during school hours, and then they will eventually accept it as part of their lives in their adulthood.  In Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ explains what conditioning aims to accomplish with “The Director” as one of the main characters who is head of the Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre.  The Director says:

Hot tunnels alternated with cool tunnels.  Coolness was wedded to discomfort in the form of hard X-rays.  By the time they were decanted the embryos had a horror of cold.  They were predestined to emigrate to the tropics, to be miners and acetate silk spinners and steel workers.  Later on their minds would be made to endorse the judgment of their bodies.  “We condition them to thrive on heat,” concluded Mr. Foster, Our colleagues upstairs will teach them to love it.”

“And that,” put in the Director sententiously, “that is the secret of happiness and virtue – liking what you’ve got to do.  All conditioning aims at that: making people like their un-escapable social destiny.

The “un-escapable social destiny” is describing a future with a government declaring martial law as they will experience in their adulthood or even sooner.  Aldous Huxley was quoted at the Tavistock Group in a California Medical School in 1961 predicting what is currently taking place across the United States:

There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution.

Aldous Huxley also describes the “Ultimate Revolution” in a 1962 speech at the University of California, Berkley.  Here is part of the speech:

But I think that insofar as dictators become more and more scientific, more and more concerned with the technically perfect, perfectly running society, they will be more and more interested in the kind of techniques which I imagined and described from existing realities in BNW. So that, it seems to me then, that this ultimate revolution is not really very far away, that we, already a number of techniques for bringing about this kind of control are here, and it remains to be seen when and where and by whom they will first be applied in any large scale.

And first let me talk about the, a little bit about the, improvement in the techniques of terrorism. I think there have been improvements. Pavlov after all made some extremely profound observations both on animals and on human beings. And he found among other things that conditioning techniques applied to animals or humans in a state either of psychological or physical stress sank in so to say, very deeply into the mind-body of the creature, and were extremely difficult to get rid of. That they seemed to be embedded more deeply than other forms of conditioning.

And this of course, this fact was discovered empirically in the past. People did make use of many of these techniques, but the difference between the old empirical intuitive methods and our own methods is the difference between the, a sort of, hit and miss craftsman’s point of view and the genuinely scientific point of view. I think there is a real difference between ourselves and say the inquisitors of the 16th century. We know much more precisely what we are doing, than they knew and we can extend because of our theoretical knowledge, we can extend what we are doing over a wider area with a greater assurance of being producing something that really works.

Aldous Huxley predicted what would happen if a major event were to take place such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting incident in Newtown, Connecticut.  “Everybody is concerned about the security of children, particularly in light of (the) incidents,” said Chiara Coletti, spokeswomen for the principals union.  “No one is balking at this (protocol)” the New York Daily News reported.  It is understandable to fear another Newtown shooting incident.

However, to subject children and teenagers to “Lockdown Drills” every year is conditioning them to accept martial law regardless of the situation.  Will “Lockdown drills” guarantee the safety of the children? Not necessarily, but it is certain that when children are trained to accept martial law in their community or in their city when the government orders a lockdown in the entire area, they will do it willingly, even in their adulthood.
