According to various Russian press sources, the reason for the dismissal of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Libya – Vladimir CHAMOV – was his terse telegram to President Dimitriy MEDVEDEV- calling him a traitor. This happened hours before the voting at the UN Security Council’s session on Libya.
Based on official versions, Chamov was accused of “inadequately portraying Russian’s interests in the Libyan conflict”. The chairman of the Supervisory Council of the Institute of Demography, Migration and Regional Development- Yuriy Krupnov – during an interview with the “Eurasia” portal’s correspondent, stated :
“From my point of view we see here some serious disagreements within our hierarchy, and they, as a matter of fact, do not concern Libya as such, but the overall position of Russia in the modern world”.
“Whatever has occurred with the Ambassador, and apparently he carried out a certain demarche, it is likely that the disagreement of positions is connected with the general divergence concerning further developments in the country in question”.
Whatever happens in the present situation concerning Libya, it is, in Krupnov’s opinion – “a matter concerning the principle of hegemony and voluntary imperialism which today is being established in Libya by a coalition of the USA, Great Britain and France, we somewhat feel that they cannot manage without Russia ‘s input. Therefore Russia is in a complex situation: either it will take a traditional thousand-year position based on traditional principles, or it will step aside – but then – following Libya, Russia will find itself the next target”.
The Russian RuNet internet users responded with a huge wave of support for the Russian diplomat and against the dirty trick foisted on him –“at least we have real men among us!! And while we still have them present – we won’t lose the battle!! We meet the person who tried to stop World War III!”.
